Part 3 of the Highland Games Series, 7 Highland Tests from the 56lb for height to the 16lb hammer for distance and the famous caber toss finale are just some of the Highland Challeges the throwers will face.

This is a fun packed day for the family, loads to do for the kids, not to be missed.

Throughout the afternoon the Marquee will be a hive of activity, such as:- Ulster-Scots Folk Orchestra, Highland Dance, Stonewall Folk Group, a Parcel of Rogues, Lambeg Drumming, Ulster Scots Cookery demonstration, Craft Stalls, Language Book Stalls.

Testosterone Unleashed – Maghera Highland Games – 19 September 2009

A great day in Maghera, good crowd, great weather, we were sure to have a great games and festival.

Not only was this the final part of the series to see who would lift the Highland Warrior Trophy but it was also our Official Novice Highland Games Championships.

Events:

24lb Stone Putt

The best throw of the day was by our pro competitor Jonathan Kelly, Co Antrim with a distance of 32’ 6 inches. The best Novice throw of the day turning out to be a strong competitor was Nigel Troy, Co Tipperary with 27’ 8 inches.

28lb Weight for Distance

With a tremendous throw of 56’ 7 inches Jonathan Kelly won this event for the pro section with Nigel Troy for the Novice section throwing 52’ 5 inches.

42lb Weight for Height

The best throw in the pro section was again by Jonathan Kelly with a height of 15 foot. The best throw of the day in the Novice section and beating the pro section was Trojan Power Nigel Troy with 15 ½ foot.

16lb Hammer for Distance

The best distance in the pro section was again by Jonathan Kelly with a distance of 95’ 5 inches. The best distance of the day in the Novice section was Nigel Troy with 80’ 1 inch.

22lb Sheaf Toss

Jonathan Kelly, Co Antrim (Pro section) and Pete McCallan, Co Tyrone (Novice section) both secured this joint win with 20 foot.

Caber Toss

Jonathan Kelly won the pro section with a 1215 toss and Pete McCallan won the Novice section with a perfect 12 o’clock.

The overall winner of the Novice Highland Games Championship 2009 was Nigel Troy. Nigel now moves into the professional ranks in Ireland and we congratulate him.

The overall winner of the Highland Games Series 2009 is Jonathan Kelly – 5 times winner.
