Magnus Ver Magnusson
Of all the great champions in the line-up of the 1995 and 1996 World's Strongest Man contest, Magnus Ver Magnusson had the most impressive record in past events. He won the title in 1991 when the competition was held in Tenerife and was runner-up in 1992 and 1993. He regained the title in 1994 in South Africa and after winning the 1995 World Muscle Power championship in Scotland, he went to the Bahamas and won the World's Strongest Man title for the third time, he won again in 1996 in Mauritius, equalling Sigmarsson's record of winning the title four times.

He is a worthy representative of Iceland's superb "heavy" Strongmen. In a country of mighty men and numerous champions out of all proportion to the size of the population - even in such company - Magnusson is classed as one of the all-time greats.

After indulging in a wide range of sporting activities, Magnus Ver Magnusson, an engineer by profession, began powerlifting in 1984 and 1995 and won medals in the European and World championship. In 1989 and 1990, he won Senior European title in the 125kg category. His totals often exceeded those of everybody else in the competition regardless of bodyweight and as a result he has gained several "Best Lifter" awards. Notable lifts include squat 400kg, bench press 274.5kg, dead-lift 374kg and total of 1015kg.

The proud Norseman's sportsmanship in the face of adversity has considerably impressed his colleagues. His dedicated professionalism always ensures maximum results.
